Shawn Kendrick, RN, FNP
Shawn Kendrick has dedicated nearly three decades to the field of nursing, beginning practice in 1998 after graduating from Northern Michigan University in 1997. Throughout a long and distinguished career in acute care settings, Shawn has developed extensive expertise in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, with a strong commitment to patient-centered care. From early in life, Shawn was drawn to a career in healthcare, originally considering OBGYN before ultimately choosing nursing as a meaningful way to make a lasting impact on patients and their families.
After years of bedside nursing experience, Shawn completed a Nurse Practitioner program at Walden University in 2023 and is currently awaiting board certification as a Nurse Practitioner. This transition marks the next step in a career defined by clinical excellence, adaptability, and continuous professional growth. Shawn has developed a particular clinical interest in infectious disease and is eager to apply advanced practice skills in a provider role to further support patient recovery and outcomes.
In addition to clinical practice, Shawn is recognized as a natural leader and mentor within hospital environments, often supporting and guiding colleagues in their professional development. A strong advocate for lifelong learning, Shawn is considering pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in the future. Above all, Shawn is driven by the reward of seeing patients recover from critical illness and return home with improved health, finding deep meaning in the trust and gratitude conveyed through their recovery.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most is just the reward of seeing patients who come in like in bad shape, and then the majority of them recover and there are smiling faces and they get to go home. That's really, really what keeps me going. And they don't always have to say thank you, but I know they appreciate my services, so that's like what kept me in the profession so long. I enjoy helping people, and even though nursing can be physically demanding as you get older with all the lifting and everything, the fulfillment of seeing patients recover and knowing I made a difference in their lives is what makes it all worthwhile.
