Dr. Sharon Young, PhD, MSN/Ed, RN, LNC, FNP, CLC, CHC
Dr. Sharon Young, PhD, MSN/Ed, RN, CLNC, is the Founder and CEO of Heart of Health Consulting, LLC, and the owner of the Heart of Health Wellness Center in Seymour, Missouri. With over 40 years of experience in nursing, hospice care, and healthcare leadership, Dr. Young has dedicated her career to helping patients achieve holistic wellness. Her professional journey began as a volunteer Candy-Striper in her hometown of Lawrence, Kansas, as a teenager, and evolved as an adult through roles in pediatric specialty care, a surgeon's head nurse in orthopedics, and then in hospice; culminating in her founding of Heart of Health Consulting to provide education, training, and wellness services that empower individuals and communities.
After experiencing the limitations of conventional medicine firsthand when diagnosed with four autoimmune conditions (SLE Lupus, Hashimoto's, Metabolic Syndrome, & Insulin Resistance), she had just began to heal when she survived a physician injury from a steroid injection which temporarily crippled her. It took her over a year to get her range of motion back. Because of her healing journey, going to five doctors in 2 years trying to find answers, Dr. Young turned to functional and natural medicine. Through perseverance and faith-driven practices, she successfully restored her health, inspiring her to integrate evidence-based holistic modalities into her practice.
Today, she specializes in Women's health and wellness, gut health, chronic illness recovery, and root-cause approaches to wellness, offering therapies such as detoxification, massage, red light therapy, 3-in-1 sauna, full body vibration, and essential oils. She continues to add new modalities to her wellness center. Her patient-centered philosophy emphasizes listening to her clients to find root causes, providing education, and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal. She has a unique perspective with her background in conventional Western Medicine and Functional Medicine; providing a bridge between them. During her nursing career, she worked for the Greene County Health Department, providing vaccinations and education to Greene County residents, worked in a large local hospital, and provided compassionate and administrative care for hospice patients for over 30 years. Dr. Young has chaired conventions for MONSA and EOL Coalition. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Young is a published author, community leader, and educator. She has authored three booklets on wellness and health (on EOL Care, Caregiving, and Orientation Manuals for staff), a faith-based book 'In the Wake of Worship', and is currently working on 'Autoimmune: Defying the Odds', which she hopes to have published this year. She served as past president of the MONSA, was past president of the End of Life Coalition, and was president of professional education for end of life care in Missouri. She has been recognized for her leadership and service with honors such as the Scouting's Silver Beaver Award, inclusion in Women of Distinction Magazine, and was interviewed by CUTV for her work. Dr. Young continues to inspire others through her work, mentoring others, and advocating for holistic health practices that restore hope, resilience, and vitality.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I really enjoy being able to understand where my patients come from because I've been there myself. I've always said you can't be really a good nurse unless you've been a patient, and the same way throughout any kind of medical practice - you're not going to understand where a patient comes from unless you've been there yourself or at least have some kind of connection with someone close to you that has gone through some similar pathway. Because of what I've been through with my four autoimmune diseases and my journey of healing, that's what makes me be able to understand others. I'm like a dog on a bone and just won't give up if somebody is needing help. I tell my clients that you need to listen to your body when it's whispering to you, because if you don't, it's going to start yelling at you. I know healing works, and I know people can get a better version, a healthier version of themselves. I can't heal anybody myself, but I can help the clients get to a place to where their body will heal itself, and that's all with the Lord's help and direction.
