Shannon Baldo, MHA, BSN, RN, NE-BC, CPHQ
Shannon Baldo, MHA, BSN, RN, NE-BC, CPHQ, with more than twenty-six years of nursing experience, serves as the Director of Nursing Quality at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center and has become a leading force in healthcare quality and patient safety. She plays a vital role in overseeing nursing quality metrics, staffing strategies, and educational initiatives designed to enhance patient outcomes and prevent safety incidents. Her leadership extends to managing complex quality improvement projects and collaborating closely with frontline nurses to ensure they have the tools, knowledge, and support needed to deliver exceptional care. Under her guidance, Roswell Park recently achieved Magnet® designation, one of the most prestigious honors in nursing, reflecting both the organization’s commitment to excellence and Shannon’s dedication to fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
Shannon began her nursing journey at a community college, earning her RN before completing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at what is now D’Youville University. She later earned her Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix and holds national certifications as a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) and a Nurse Executive, Board Certified (NE-BC). Her early career in critical care, particularly in open-heart and cardiovascular nursing, established her deep commitment to evidence-based practice and clinical excellence. Inspired by her collaboration with a cardiologist early in her career, she transitioned into quality and outcomes management roles within cardiac programs, where she applied her clinical expertise to improve performance metrics and patient safety. Shannon has also shared her knowledge through local speaking engagements focused on women’s health and nursing leadership, encouraging other nurses to pursue excellence and leadership in their fields.
Throughout her career, Shannon has embodied the evolution from novice clinician to expert mentor. She credits much of her success to the skilled preceptors and colleagues who modeled excellence and inspired her to continuously raise her own standards. Currently, she is leading a major initiative at Roswell Park to reduce patient falls, achieving a remarkable 65 percent reduction through a proactive, multidisciplinary approach. Recognizing that falls often stem from medication effects and reduced mobility, she emphasizes thorough assessment, patient education, and vigilant supervision. Her ongoing goal is to achieve zero patient fall injuries, with plans to publish and present her findings at national healthcare conferences. Through her unwavering commitment to quality, safety, and mentorship, Shannon Baldo continues to elevate nursing practice and inspire excellence across the healthcare community.

I have contributed to several peer-reviewed publications focused on advancing outcomes in patients undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR). My work includes “Valvuloarterial Impedance Predicts Heart Failure Readmissions in Patients Undergoing Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement,” published in Structural Heart: The Journal of the Heart Team (May 2017), which explored the predictive value of elevated valvuloarterial impedance (Zva) in assessing heart failure readmission risk post-TAVR. Additionally, my publication “Predictors of Poor Quality of Life After Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement,” featured in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (March 2017), examined key clinical and procedural factors influencing post-TAVR quality of life, with the goal of improving patient selection and long-term outcomes.
