Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

In the complex tapestry of healthcare, where moments often dictate outcomes, my role as an adult-geriatric provider offers me a unique, fulfilling experience that extends beyond daily tasks. The privilege of working with acutely ill and with chronic medical condition patients—those who are physiologically unstable, technologically dependent, or highly vulnerable to complications—is profoundly rewarding. This is complemented by greater autonomy in practice, allowing me to provide comprehensive care for adult and older patients with complex conditions, with a focus on preventing future complications and improving overall health. The intellectual challenge of assessing immediate health situations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, developing culturally sensitive treatment plans grounded in best practices, and prescribing medications for acute conditions while maintaining patients' health status is integral to this deep satisfaction. Ultimately, it is the combination of autonomous practice, critical decision-making, and the direct impact on the well-being of vulnerable adult and geriatric patients that stands as the most enjoyable and meaningful aspect of practicing medicine as an AGACNP.
