Rhonda Conley, CNA

Rhonda Conley has devoted more than three decades to providing compassionate, patient-centered care as a Certified Nursing Assistant. With 32 years of experience in the medical field, Conley has built a career grounded in empathy, dedication, and a genuine passion for helping others. Inspired by her mother, who also worked as a CNA, she discovered early on that healthcare was where she was meant to be. Although she once dreamed of becoming a truck driver, her path ultimately led her into nursing, where she found deep fulfillment in caring for patients and supporting families through some of life’s most vulnerable moments.

Throughout the majority of her career, Conley specialized in geriatric long-term care, developing strong connections with elderly patients and becoming known for her compassionate bedside manner. She spent many years working at Advanced Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in New Haven, a facility she considers one of the most meaningful chapters of her professional life. There, she built lasting relationships with residents and colleagues while gaining invaluable experience caring for aging populations with complex medical and emotional needs. Her dedication to ensuring patients felt heard, respected, and cared for became a hallmark of her approach to healthcare.

In recent years, Conley expanded her clinical experience by transitioning into hospital settings, where she has worked for the past four to five years. This shift allowed her to broaden her skills while continuing to provide compassionate support to patients in fast-paced medical environments. Alongside her CNA certification, she also holds OSHA 10 certification and has completed phlebotomy training, reflecting her commitment to ongoing professional growth and versatility within healthcare. No matter the setting, Conley remains deeply committed to making meaningful human connections with patients, often taking extra time to sit with them, listen to their stories, and bring comfort through simple acts of kindness and conversation.

Looking ahead, Conley plans to continue her healthcare journey by transitioning into sterile processing, where she hopes to contribute to patient safety and quality care from another important angle within the medical field. Her willingness to evolve professionally while maintaining her compassion for others demonstrates the dedication that has defined her entire career. Through decades of service, Conley has made a lasting impact on countless patients and families, embodying the values of empathy, resilience, and lifelong commitment to healthcare excellence.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I enjoy making people smile. I just enjoy taking care of people, you know? If I think that I've made your day better by just coming in and giving you a nice big smile and talking to you, there's nothing better than sitting down, having a conversation with an old person, and just listening to them. You hear their stories and you're like, oh my goodness, I can't believe you've been through all of that, or God, it was that bad in that day? Even though I work in a hospital setting now, and not in the nursing home, I still sit and take my little 15 minutes and get to know my patients. Because sometimes they don't have family to talk to. So it's just giving them a few minutes of your time. There's nothing like it. And they appreciate it. They are so interesting, too.
