Rebecca Amos is a compassionate and accomplished nursing professional with more than 30 years of experience spanning school nursing, neurology intensive care, geriatrics, infusion therapy, home health, pediatrics, and case management. Based in the Greater New Orleans region, she currently serves as Nurse Coordinator for the Plaquemines Parish School Board, where she oversees district-wide health services, policies, compliance, and nursing operations. Known for her integrity, accountability, and patient-centered approach, Rebecca is deeply committed to ensuring every student and patient receives compassionate, individualized care. Over the course of her career, Rebecca has built a diverse clinical background that includes a decade working in neurology ICU, leadership in infusion therapy, and extensive experience in home health and case management. For the past 20 years, she has focused primarily on school nursing, managing healthcare services for children ranging from infancy through young adulthood. In her current leadership role, she supervises a team of nurses while also spearheading innovative health initiatives, including the development of an AED program and the implementation of two mobile health units designed to serve students and underserved rural communities throughout the parish. Her dedication to improving access to healthcare has made a meaningful impact on both the school system and the surrounding community. Rebecca is equally passionate about mentorship, leadership, and advancing the nursing profession. After beginning her career with an associate degree from Charity School of Nursing, she later returned to school to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Governors University and is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Nursing Administration. She actively mentors newer nurses in her district, participates in peer mentorship programs through WGU, and speaks annually to health related service graduate program students at Louisiana State University about the realities and responsibilities of school nursing. A longtime leader within professional nursing organizations, Rebecca also served for eight years as Treasurer of the Louisiana School Nurses Organization and hopes to continue shaping the next generation of nurses through teaching and education.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

The one thing I like about practicing medicine as a nurse is when you help a family get to resources they didn't have, or when you teach that student how to stick their own finger, the little successes that you have when you make an impact on somebody's life. Those are the moments that really matter to me - seeing families gain access to care they needed, watching students learn to manage their own health, and knowing that I've made a real difference in someone's life.
