Poonam Gogia, MD

Dr. Poonam Gogia is a highly experienced internal medicine physician with more than 30 years of clinical practice, currently serving at WellMed Medical Management in Texas. She specializes in adult and geriatric care, with a strong focus on managing complex, high-risk conditions such as congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and chronic kidney disease. Throughout her career, Dr. Gogia has been deeply committed to serving underserved and indigent populations, particularly along the U.S.–Mexico border, where she has delivered compassionate, patient-centered care in resource-limited settings.
Dr. Gogia earned her MBBS from Lady Hardinge Medical College before completing her internal medicine residency at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. Her early medical training in India provided extensive exposure to high-volume infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, dengue, and cholera, shaping her adaptability and clinical expertise in diverse and high-acuity environments. In addition to her clinical work, she has held significant academic and leadership roles, serving as core faculty for an internal medicine residency program and as a clerkship director, where she mentored medical students, residents, and mid-level providers while contributing to curriculum development and program growth.
A recognized leader in value-based care, Dr. Gogia has pioneered innovative approaches to complex patient management, including establishing specialized clinics focused on reducing hospitalizations through education, medication management, and remote patient monitoring. As a Quality and Risk Adjustment Champion, she has worked to optimize care delivery and improve patient outcomes. Passionate about health equity and medical education, she continues to explore opportunities in telemedicine and startup-driven healthcare solutions aimed at expanding access for vulnerable populations. Dr. Gogia has been actively involved in training junior doctors and APCs throughout her career. She served as core faculty for the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Regional Academic Health Center in Harlingen, which she helped establish in the early 2000s. From 2000 to 2013, she was clerkship director for medical students and gave numerous lectures and training sessions during her years of heavy involvement in academics and leadership positions. At WellMed, she has served as a quality and risk adjustment champion and continues to train the next generation of healthcare providers.
