Penny Strouse MSN, RNC-MNN
Penny Strouse is an Assistant Professor of Practice and Clinical Placement Coordinator in the Undergraduate School of Nursing at the University of Indianapolis, based in Greenwood, Indiana. In this role, she is dedicated to preparing future nurses through hands-on clinical education, thoughtful placement coordination, and supportive mentorship. Concurrently, she continues to practice as a registered nurse and clinical educator on the maternal-newborn unit at St. Francis Hospital, ensuring her teaching remains grounded in real-world clinical experience.
With a professional focus on maternal-newborn nursing, Penny is deeply committed to developing competent, confident nurses who deliver safe, compassionate patient care. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes teamwork, mentorship, and supportive leadership, guided by her belief in “not eating your young.” She is passionate about fostering learning environments where new nurses feel encouraged, valued, and equipped to grow, both clinically and professionally.
Penny began her nursing career after earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Indianapolis in 1997, later completing a Master of Science in Nursing Leadership and Administration from Ball State University in 2016. Her career spans more than 25 years and includes experience in OBGYN, cardiac critical care, postpartum and newborn care, staff development, and nursing education. A respected leader in the profession, she serves as President of Sigma Theta Tau’s Lambda Epsilon chapter and as a Senator for the University of Indianapolis School of Nursing. Recently nominated for the DAISY Award as an educator, Penny continues to inspire the next generation of nurses through mentorship, collaboration, and lifelong learning.

I enjoy the success of the students she works with most—watching them grow in confidence, develop strong clinical skills, and ultimately succeed as compassionate, competent nurses is the most rewarding part of my work.
