Nicole Harris, CNA, CMT
Nicole Harris, CNA, CMT, has built a dynamic and compassionate healthcare career grounded in service, adaptability, and a deep curiosity about the human body and mind. Since 2017, she has worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and Certified Medication Technician, currently serving as a traveling healthcare professional on a two-year contract with Fulton State Hospital in Fulton, Missouri. In this state psychiatric facility, Nicole provides hands-on care to patients with complex mental health diagnoses—work she finds especially meaningful. She recognizes that psychiatric care requires patience, emotional resilience, and a genuine commitment to supporting individuals without judgment, and she takes pride in bringing steady, compassionate energy into that environment.
Nicole’s healthcare journey began in 2010 as an optician, where she developed a fascination with ocular anatomy and disease processes. Her growing interest in direct patient care led her to earn her CNA certification in 2017 through Ozark Riverview Manor. For nearly two years, she balanced both optical and nursing roles before fully transitioning into bedside care. Determined to expand her scope of practice, she obtained her Level 1 Medication Aide (L1MA) certification in 2018 and later earned her Certified Medication Technician (CMT) credential in 2021–2022, qualifying her to administer medications in assisted living and long-term care settings. In addition to her contract at Fulton, she works with two supplemental staffing agencies serving long-term care and assisted living facilities.
Academically driven, Nicole holds an Associate’s degree in Bioclinical Science with a Behavioral Science emphasis from Ozarks Technical Community College. She also completed substantial coursework toward dual Bachelor’s degrees in Exercise and Movement Science and Psychology at Missouri State University, including rigorous pre-med anatomy and physiology courses with cadaver lab experience. She is currently pursuing her nursing degree at Ozarks Technical Community College, with an expected completion date of October 2026, strategically maintaining travel flexibility to support her academic goals. In addition to her clinical credentials—CNA (2017), L1MA (2018), CMT (2021–22), and BLS certification—Nicole is also a Certified Yoga Instructor (2013) and is training in medical billing and coding as a complementary skill set, allowing her to diversify her career while continuing her dedication to patient care.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I really love helping people, and I'm fascinated with the science behind healthcare. What I've found most rewarding is my work at the psychiatric hospital - it's actually been my favorite job so far. I think it takes a special kind of person to be able to work there and enjoy it, to enjoy the patients and be able to pour into them and not be unnerved by the different diagnoses. I find that I can truly connect with these patients in a meaningful way, and that's what makes the work so fulfilling for me.
