Dr. Nemat Khansari is a retired Professor of Immunology at Tehran Medical School and currently serves as Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Vaccine & Vaccination. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Tehran and completed his Ph.D. in Immunology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. With decades of experience in biomedical research, Dr. Khansari has built a distinguished career specializing in cancer immunotherapy, cell culture technology, and stem cell research, establishing himself as a leading authority in clinical immunology and translational medicine.

Throughout his career, Dr. Khansari has held numerous leadership roles, including Director of a Medical Diagnostic Laboratory in Tehran for over 30 years, CEO and Chairman of the Board at Gandhi Hotel Hospital, and Biotechnology & Biosafety Advisor at the Department of Environment in Tehran, Iran. He also served for four years as a Member of the Compliance Committee of the CBD Biosafety Protocol, representing the Asia-Pacific region. In academia, he contributed as an Assistant Professor at North Dakota State University, where he continued his commitment to education and research excellence.

Dr. Khansari’s extensive background in immunology research has led to major contributions in cancer diagnosis and treatment, immunotherapy development, and the study of immune dysfunction in aging. His pioneering work includes directing teams in clinical immunology testing, cell sorting, and immunotherapy preparation. In recognition of his outstanding achievements, he was listed in Marquis Who’s Who in 2022 and 2024, reflecting his lifelong dedication to scientific advancement and public health.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Khansari remains deeply passionate about teaching, mentoring, and inspiring the next generation of scientists and clinicians. He continues to advocate for bridging scientific discovery with practical medical applications, promoting innovation in biomedical research, and fostering global collaboration in the field of immunology. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is the opportunity to integrate teaching, research, and leadership within the field of immunology. I am passionate about educating the next generation of scientists and clinicians, advancing research in aging and immunological health, and translating scientific discoveries into improved patient care. During my tenure at the Iranian Pasteur Institute, I had the privilege of establishing the Biotechnology Division and serving as Professor and Vice President of the Department of Immunology—roles that enabled me to foster institutional growth, lead innovative research, and mentor future leaders in the field.
