Milena Stefanovich, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, CPN, is an experienced healthcare professional with more than 30 years in nursing, bringing a diverse international perspective to patient care. She began her nursing career in Serbia after graduating from nursing college in 1995 and has spent the past 26 years practicing in the United States. Inspired by a strong family tradition in healthcare—her mother served as a nurse for 40 years and her daughter is currently studying nursing—Milena has dedicated her career to compassionate, patient-centered care across multiple specialties and healthcare settings. For more than two decades, Milena served at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, where she held several key roles including surgical technician, clinical coordinator for gastrointestinal, dental, hematology, and oncology services, and OR circulating nurse. During her 26 years in pediatric healthcare, she developed deep expertise in clinical coordination and pediatric patient care while earning certification as a Certified Pediatric Nurse. In addition to her clinical roles, she has also contributed to nursing education as a nursing instructor at the University of St. Francis, helping guide and mentor the next generation of nurses. Milena later advanced her career by earning both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner from Chamberlain University. Today, she practices as a Family Nurse Practitioner and urgent care provider with Endeavor Health in the Chicago area, previously serving patients through Northwestern Medicine and Midwest Express Clinic. She is also a certified Department of Transportation medical examiner, providing physical examinations for commercial drivers. Fluent in Serbian and deeply committed to her profession, Milena continues to provide accessible, high-quality care while upholding a family legacy of dedication to nursing and service.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I enjoy practicing medicine because it allows me to combine problem-solving with meaningful human connection. I find satisfaction in diagnosing complex cases, interpreting labs and imaging, and developing treatment plans that truly improve patients’ lives. At the same time, I value the relationships I build with patients—listening to their concerns, educating them, and guiding them through illness or preventive care. I also enjoy the procedural and hands-on aspects of medicine, which provide tangible, immediate impact. Ultimately, what drives me is the opportunity to make a difference every day, whether through critical decision-making, patient advocacy, or collaborative teamwork.
