Matthew Ward, RN
Matthew Ward, RN is a dedicated and versatile registered nurse at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Round Rock, where he works in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). With seven years of nursing experience, Matthew’s career path was unconventional; he initially aspired to become a physician assistant before discovering his true calling in nursing. His clinical journey spans surgical and medical-surgical units, emergency medicine, and post-anesthesia care, giving him a comprehensive perspective on patient care. In the PACU, he helps patients safely recover from anesthesia, managing pain, monitoring airways, addressing nausea, and ensuring patients are stable and well-informed before discharge.
Matthew’s transition to the PACU represented a deliberate move toward a more balanced and sustainable professional life. The daytime schedule and calmer environment allow him to maintain focus on his mental well-being while continuing to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes. Beyond his daily responsibilities, he remains active within the nursing community, holding memberships in Sigma Theta Tau, the American Society of Critical Care Nurses, and an emergency nurses society, reflecting his commitment to lifelong learning and advancing standards of care. Looking ahead, Matthew is exploring further education to become a nurse practitioner or to take on leadership and educational roles within nursing.
Academically, Matthew earned two bachelor’s degrees from Marymount University: one in Exercise Science and another in Nursing through an accelerated program, completing his BSN in 2018 and earning licensure in 2019. Outside of nursing, he maintains a strong passion for fitness and health, drawing on his background as a former collegiate swimmer and avid gym enthusiast. Matthew applies the same discipline, focus, and perseverance in his personal pursuits that he brings to his professional practice, inspiring those around him both in and out of the hospital.
