Dr. Matthew C. Maruska, DO, is a seasoned family medicine and sports medicine physician based in Stephenville, Texas, known for his patient-centered care and expertise in athletic health. After graduating cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Maruska began his professional journey as a science teacher and coach in the Lubbock Independent School District, reflecting his early passion for education, sports, and community engagement. He earned his medical degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (affiliated with the UNT Health Science Center) in 2010, completed a family medicine residency in Waco, Texas, in 2013, and pursued a sports medicine fellowship at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa in San Antonio.

Over more than a decade in clinical practice, Dr. Maruska has combined his expertise in primary care with specialized sports medicine to treat athletes and active individuals of all ages. He served as a physician with Cross Timbers Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, providing comprehensive musculoskeletal care, injury management, and performance guidance. In 2024, he became the Chief Medical Officer and Head Team Physician at Tarleton State University, overseeing student health services and delivering medical care to the university’s athletic programs.

Dr. Maruska is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, with subspecialty certification in sports medicine, and brings extensive experience as a team physician at various collegiate and high school programs. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is deeply rooted in his community and family life—he and his wife, Kendi, are parents to three children, including a son who is a student-athlete at Tarleton State. His focus on holistic health, sports performance, and long-term wellness continues to make him a trusted provider for patients and athletes throughout the region.
