Matthew M. Barry, LPC
Matthew M. Barry, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor dedicated to creating a safe, non-judgmental space where individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow. He believes that meaningful change is possible for anyone who engages in the therapeutic process, and he works collaboratively with clients to transform challenges into opportunities for personal development. With a compassionate and goal-oriented approach, Matthew supports both motivated individuals and those who may feel uncertain, helping them clarify their direction while encouraging authenticity in and out of the counseling space. Practicing with Revival Therapy in Crystal Lake, Illinois, since 2022, Matthew brings several years of clinical experience working with diverse populations. He specializes in neurodivergence-informed counseling, focusing on individuals with ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, and other cognitive differences. By integrating evidence-based techniques with personalized care, he helps clients better understand how their unique neurological makeup shapes their experiences, relationships, and emotional well-being. His work spans young adults navigating identity and life transitions, as well as older adults seeking clarity and renewed purpose. As a neurodivergent professional with ADHD himself, Matthew offers a rare combination of lived experience and clinical expertise. This perspective allows him to connect deeply with clients who may have previously felt misunderstood or overlooked. He is particularly passionate about providing psychoeducation and validation, equipping individuals with the insight needed to navigate their lives more effectively. Matthew also recognizes the importance of representation in mental health care and values his role as a male therapist, especially in supporting men who are often underserved in seeking emotional and psychological support. Matthew earned both his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and his Master’s degree in Clinical & Community Mental Health from Western Illinois University. He is currently working toward his Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) credential to expand his scope of practice. Looking ahead, he aims to further develop his work with couples and families and pursue specialized training in eating disorders as they relate to neurodivergence—an emerging and important area of mental health care.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I am deeply passionate about continuous learning and professional growth. I believe that as clinicians, we have a responsibility to remain curious, to keep educating ourselves, and to approach our work with humility—even when that means being open to uncertainty. What motivates me most is working with individuals who may not initially understand why they are struggling or how they arrived at their current circumstances. Guiding them toward greater self-awareness and insight is incredibly rewarding. I am especially committed to providing meaningful psychoeducation, particularly for individuals with ADHD. As someone who is neurodivergent myself, I bring both personal understanding and clinical knowledge to help clients feel validated, understood, and truly seen—especially those who may have previously struggled to articulate their experiences, even within mental health settings.
