Matt Iorio, MD
Dr. Matt Iorio is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in hand surgery, nerve reconstruction, and complex wound and extremity care. A native of Texas who grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Chicago, followed by medical training at Georgetown University School of Medicine and fellowship at the University of Washington’s Harborview Medical Center. He later served on the faculty of Harvard Medical School before joining the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he helped build nationally recognized programs in extremity reconstruction, wound care, and orthoplastic surgery.
Over more than a decade of practice, Dr. Iorio has dedicated his career to treating severe injuries and challenging conditions, including traumatic limb damage, chronic pain, and complex wounds, that many believed were beyond repair. Using advanced microsurgery techniques, nerve reconstruction, and targeted muscle reinnervation (TMR), he has helped patients preserve limbs, regain function, and overcome debilitating pain.
Beyond his surgical work, Dr. Iorio is deeply committed to education and mentorship. He has published over 130 scientific articles and 24 textbook chapters and has earned recognition as a multiple-time “Teacher of the Year” and a “Hand Surgery Research All-Star,” ranking among the top 0.5% of microsurgery scholars worldwide. When he is not in the operating room or teaching, he enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and off-roading.
