She has provided significant teaching and precepting support, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, and continues to mentor and train new clinicians. After a period of resource work across multiple services, she returned to spine surgery, where she continues to practice today. She is known for her adaptability, willingness to take on new challenges, and commitment to lifelong learning, often emphasizing that growth comes from staying open to new knowledge and learning from others at every stage of life.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I love spine surgery. What I enjoy is being prepared and making sure everything is in place for the procedure. I'm always looking ahead, planning the day before, getting the room ready the night before or coming in extra early to get the room set up. I make sure we have the proper equipment, proper instruments, everything's in place. Then we open and do the case. It's about communication with the surgeon, positioning, the drugs, and all the extra things to make sure I'm on the same page with the surgeon and that what we have is appropriate for the procedure. I found my place when I went back to Children's and worked in surgery with kids. I just love it. I've been doing spine surgery for the last couple of years and I just love it. I will always be in nursing because it's what I love.
