Mary Jean Fusco, MD

Mary Jean Fusco, MD (retired), is a seasoned medical leader with decades of experience in oncology safety, clinical nephrology, and internal medicine. Most recently serving as Senior Medical Director at AbbVie, she has built a distinguished career grounded in patient safety, scientific rigor, and a deep commitment to advancing therapeutic innovation. Throughout her tenure, Dr. Fusco became known for her thoughtful leadership, analytical expertise, and unwavering dedication to improving outcomes for patients worldwide.

Before joining AbbVie, Dr. Fusco spent more than sixteen years with Janssen, the pharmaceutical companies of Johnson & Johnson, where she served as Medical Safety Officer and Director of Global Medical Safety. Her earlier career includes key safety and clinical development roles at Bristol Myers Squibb and Astra USA, where she contributed to OTC cardiovascular programs, clinical monitoring, pharmacology, and post-marketing safety strategy. Across each role, she brought a meticulous approach to drug development and a collaborative spirit that strengthened teams and guided successful regulatory and clinical initiatives.

Dr. Fusco earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania after completing her undergraduate studies at Brooklyn College.
