Mary Swain

Mary Swain, LPN, has been a dedicated nurse since 2005, and she considers nursing not just a profession, but her true calling. With more than two decades of healthcare experience, she currently serves in a skilled nursing facility where she manages medication orders, performs wound care, and coordinates closely with physicians and families to ensure residents receive comprehensive, individualized care. Her role also involves addressing behavioral challenges, which led her to obtain CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training to effectively de-escalate difficult situations. IV-certified and current in CPR, Mary brings both clinical competence and calm leadership to every shift.

Before working in skilled nursing, Mary spent two years in home healthcare, often seeing 13 to 14 patients a day. In that fast-paced environment, she provided hands-on treatments, specialized wound care, and extensive patient and family education. Her ability to balance efficiency with compassion became one of her greatest strengths. Determined to grow professionally, Mary returned to school while working full-time and completed all her RN prerequisites in just one year, earning honor roll recognition along the way. Although she experienced burnout and paused her pursuit, she remains open to returning to complete her RN degree when the time and resources allow.

Nursing was not Mary’s first career. She previously worked in factories, including Chrysler, following in her father’s footsteps. When the automobile industry declined, she took a buyout and courageously invested in herself by enrolling in nursing school—a path her mother, aunts, and cousins had always encouraged her to pursue. They believed she had the heart to be a nurse, and they were right. Mary approaches every patient as if they were her own parent or grandparent, shaped in part by the experience of caring for both of her parents at home until they passed. She believes deeply that the care you give to others reflects the care you will one day receive, and she lives that philosophy daily through dignity, empathy, and unwavering dedication to those she serves.
