Marvin E. Morris, MD, FACS
Dr. Marvin E. Morris, MD, FACS, is the Director of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and Director of the Non-Invasive Vascular Laboratory at SBH Health System in New York City. In this leadership role, he is responsible for advancing limb salvage programs and comprehensive vascular care in a high-risk urban population. A board-certified vascular surgeon, Dr. Morris specializes in the full spectrum of vascular and endovascular procedures, including treatment of peripheral arterial disease, carotid artery disease, abdominal aortic aneurysms, venous insufficiency, and complex vascular trauma. His work is centered on reducing amputation rates and improving outcomes for patients with advanced vascular disease.
Dr. Morris earned his MD from Boston University School of Medicine after completing his undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences at Cornell University. He completed his general surgery training at the University of Massachusetts, followed by advanced vascular surgery fellowship training at the University of Missouri. Over his academic career, he has held multiple faculty appointments, including Assistant Professor roles at the University of Louisville and University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, where he contributed to surgical education, clinical research, and vascular innovation. His early career included participation in pioneering clinical research involving stem cell-based therapies and vascular graft technologies, reflecting a long-standing commitment to advancing surgical science.
Throughout his career, Dr. Morris has remained deeply engaged in academic medicine, clinical innovation, and mentorship. He has published and presented on topics including endovascular therapeutics, tissue-engineered vascular therapies, and limb salvage strategies, and he actively participates in professional organizations such as the Society for Vascular Surgery and related specialty societies. Recognized for excellence in patient care and outcomes, he has received honors including Marquis Who’s Who in America and patient experience awards for consistently high-quality clinical performance. Dr. Morris continues to blend surgical expertise, research leadership, and education to improve vascular care delivery in underserved communities.

Dr. Morris has publications available on his Doximity profile related to his groundbreaking work at the University of Louisville, where he was part of a surgical team conducting a first-in-human clinical trial with adipose-derived stem cells and point-of-care technology on bypass grafts. This work was conducted fresh out of fellowship when he joined the University of Louisville as faculty and became part of their stem cell team, collaborating with pioneers of stem cell research in both basic science laboratory work and clinical research applications. He has also been involved in the inaugural Limb Salvage Symposia at St. Barnabas, where he collaborated with vascular surgeons, podiatrists, and wound care doctors to advance novel techniques for limb salvage and long-term wound care. Dr. Morris has delivered Grand Rounds presentations to the Departments of Medicine and Surgery on thoracic aortic pathologies and the current management of critical limb ischemia, and provides quarterly lectures to medical students and residents. He is currently working on a qualitative research project assessing the challenges with treating venous ulcerations in the Bronx population, which is progressing through the IRB process. His work has also been featured in his selection for Marquis Who's Who in America 2024.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is being able to make a positive impact on my patients' lives, whether it's through a bedside conversation or a surgical procedure. I think having a positive outcome in someone's life, both clinically or not, is incredibly rewarding. Additionally, I really value empowering the environment around me. I brought vascular surgery in full scale, along with my partner, to St. Barnabas, and we changed the landscape of the hospital - how the primary care doctors look at vascular disease, how the hospital doctors look at vascular disease, how we take care of the folks. I think it elevated the hospital to the next level, actually multiple levels, and I'm proud of the track record that we have so far.
