Marilu Medrano, LVN
Marilu Medrano is a dedicated Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) with more than a decade of experience in healthcare, specializing in home health and long-term care. She earned her vocational nursing education from Austin Community College and has been practicing since 2011. Over the course of her career, Marilu has developed strong clinical expertise while working closely with patients in both residential and facility-based settings. She is also wound care certified and has built a reputation for compassionate patient care and a commitment to improving quality of life for the individuals she serves.
In addition to her clinical work, Marilu has contributed to healthcare education as a CNA instructor at Elgin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she has helped train and mentor the next generation of nursing assistants. She has taught CNA courses for approximately six years at facilities including Regency (now Wellcentral), Elgin, and Duvall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Earlier in her career, she worked as an LVN with Restorative Health Care and VIVA Pediatrics, gaining valuable experience across multiple patient populations. Throughout her career, she has often balanced full-time roles with PRN positions at different home health agencies and long-term care facilities, allowing her to expand her clinical skills and learn how different healthcare organizations operate.
Currently, Marilu works at Urology Austin while continuing to grow professionally and academically. She is pursuing her bachelor’s degree through Western Governors University while managing the responsibilities of being a single parent and head of household. She has also maintained affiliations with organizations such as Ascension Health and North Austin Medical Center, experiences that have further strengthened her passion for healthcare. Looking ahead, Marilu plans to launch a housekeeping business designed to assist elderly individuals and those with limited mobility who need help maintaining their homes, while also serving residential and commercial clients in her community.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy the very most about the work I do is seeing people that are happy when they leave, knowing that they're happy with the care that I provided. Even now, I've had patients come in and after just one visit, they're asking what home health agency I work for so they can call them. It makes me think, did I just cause that kind of impression in just this one visit? I feel that I'm put in a place now where I can do that to an extent. God has just blessed me, and I think God has been very good to me and He's opening doors. I love people, I just love different people and different dynamics. Just getting to know people is awesome.
