Maria Christina Williams, BSN, RN

Maria Christina Williams, BSN, RN, is a compassionate hospice nurse whose career uniquely blends clinical expertise with administrative leadership in residential care. She began her professional journey after earning a bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from San Jose State University, going on to serve as an administrator and licensee for a residential care facility for the elderly starting in 2016. Through close collaboration with healthcare professionals in that role, Maria discovered her passion for direct patient care, inspiring her to pursue nursing through an accelerated BSN program at Samuel Merritt University.

Since becoming a registered nurse, Maria has dedicated her practice to hospice care, providing compassionate, end-of-life support to patients with terminal illnesses in both home and facility settings throughout Northern California. Her work focuses on ensuring comfort, dignity, and quality of life for individuals during their final stages, while also supporting families through the emotional complexities of the process. In addition to her clinical role, she maintains certification as an administrator for residential care facilities for the elderly and holds certifications in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS).

Maria’s approach to care is rooted in empathy, clinical excellence, and a deep commitment to serving individuals during their most vulnerable moments. As a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the international nursing honor society, she continues to uphold high standards of professional growth and leadership. Looking ahead, Maria aspires to expand her impact by opening additional residential care facilities and eventually serving as a Director of Nursing within a skilled nursing facility, further combining her strengths in patient care and healthcare leadership.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about nursing is being able to help people, especially during their times of need. I've always had this interest in helping people, and when I started the board and care for the elderly, I worked with a lot of nurses and physical therapists, and it made me realize this is what I want to do. I want to be more proactive in being able to help people at their time of need. That's why I went into hospice care, because I know there's a lot of nurses and other health professionals that are focusing on curative parts of medicine, which is great, but towards the end of life, I think that patients need somebody that would have both the knowledge to help them with their health needs, but also the compassion to understand the process that they're going through. End of life is different for everyone, and the only common denominator there is that it's always difficult - it's difficult for the patient, and it's difficult for their families. My driving force is to be able to help people, especially during their times of need, and I found that in hospice.
