Dr. Margaret Clifton is a Nurse Educator and Patient Simulation Specialist with extensive expertise in instructional leadership and clinical simulation in nursing education. She holds a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Instructional Leadership from Argosy University in Sarasota, Florida, and a master’s degree in nursing from Adelphi University. Dr. Clifton is a member of the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) and Sigma Theta Tau, reflecting her commitment to advancing excellence in nursing education and scholarship.

An expert in obstetric simulation instructional methods, Dr. Clifton has held significant academic and leadership roles throughout her career. Most recently, she taught in the nursing program at Adelphi University. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor and Director of the Simulation & Resource Center at SUNY Downstate Medical Center from 2006 to 2016, where she led the development and integration of high-fidelity simulation to enhance clinical learning, communication, and patient safety.

In addition to her academic leadership, Dr. Clifton is a registered nurse with broad clinical experience, including coordination of care, surgery, perinatal care, and intensive care. Her work bridges clinical practice and education, with a focus on preparing nurses through innovative, evidence-based simulation strategies that strengthen clinical competence and improve patient outcomes.

What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is teaching and empowering other nurses to grow in confidence, skill, and leadership so they can provide the highest quality care to their patients.
