Laura Marie Gush, RN
Laura Marie Gush, RN, is a dedicated and compassionate nurse who has built her career at Henry Ford Health, where she has served in multiple capacities over several years. Her journey in healthcare began as a caregiver and Certified Nursing Assistant, experiences that shaped her patient-centered philosophy and laid a strong foundation for her nursing practice. Laura earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Central Michigan University in 2009 before pursuing her passion for hands-on patient care by completing her Associate Degree in Nursing at Baker College. She became a Registered Nurse in early 2018, turning her long-standing commitment to caregiving into a professional calling.
While attending nursing school, Laura worked as an aide on a cardiac care unit, gaining valuable clinical insight and experience. After becoming an RN, she spent three and a half years on a medical-surgical floor, further strengthening her clinical judgment and adaptability. She now serves on a 23-bed, trauma care–certified general surgical unit, where she provides care to a diverse patient population. Her patients include those undergoing elective joint replacements, bariatric and spine surgeries, hysterectomies, and other general surgical procedures, as well as trauma cases and medical-surgical overflow. This dynamic environment allows Laura to apply her broad clinical skill set while delivering attentive, individualized care.
In addition to her bedside responsibilities, Laura serves as a charge nurse, coordinating surgical schedules and managing patient flow to ensure seamless care delivery. She holds certification in Trauma Care and Resuscitation (TCAR) along with Basic Life Support (BLS) credentials. Throughout her eight years of experience as a caregiver, CNA, and nurse, Laura has remained grounded in her belief that healing begins with presence and listening. She views time spent truly engaging with patients as mutually restorative, a philosophy that continues to guide her compassionate and dedicated approach to nursing.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most is spending quality time with each of my patients and really listening to them. I think because I was an aide, even though I get everything done, I feel like I need to spend quality amounts of time with each of my patients. I'll listen to them for like 20 minutes, a half an hour, and I think I've been in with a couple patients listening to them for like an hour at one point. A lot of the patients that I'll get are like, oh wow, like I can't believe I told you all this stuff, like you must be special. It's those types of patients that really make me feel like I chose the right profession. I feel like it's healing for both parties, you know.
