Laura Carpenter, RN

Laurie (Laura) Carpenter, RN is an experienced emergency department nurse with more than 26 years in the nursing profession, the majority of which she has spent serving patients at Mercy Hospital of Buffalo. In her role, she provides immediate, comprehensive care to patients of all ages who arrive with a wide range of medical emergencies, including cardiac and respiratory arrest, trauma cases, gunshot wounds, and even emergency deliveries. She also plays a key role in stabilizing patients who require transfer to higher-level trauma facilities, ensuring they receive the critical care they need.

Laurie began her academic journey at Buffalo State College, where she earned a dual degree in business and managerial economics with a minor in social psychology. After starting a family, she chose to pursue a career that offered greater flexibility and meaning, returning to school at Erie Community College to earn her nursing degree while raising her children. As a single parent of three, she balanced the demands of family and education while building a stable and fulfilling career in healthcare.

In addition to her clinical work, Laurie is committed to service and lifelong learning. She holds certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Recently, she refreshed her Spanish skills and volunteered on a medical mission in Central America near Costa Rica and Guadeloupe, where she lived with a host family while providing care in a residential facility serving more than 250 residents. Looking ahead, she hopes to participate in another international medical mission in Tanzania before her planned retirement in 2027, continuing her dedication to caring for others both at home and abroad.
