Kyle Mahoney, PharmD, MBA, BCPS, is a highly skilled Critical Care and Emergency Medicine Pharmacist based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with a strong foundation in pharmacotherapy and patient-centered care. A graduate of Western New England University, where he earned his PharmD, MBA, and Bachelor of Science, Kyle became licensed in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Throughout his career, Kyle has worked in high-acuity environments including intensive care units, emergency departments, and step-down units at leading health systems such as Broward Health, Memorial Healthcare System, and Boston Medical Center. Practicing in a decentralized clinical role, he collaborates directly with physicians, nurses, and patients at the bedside, contributing to medical rounds, optimizing antimicrobial therapy, adjusting medication dosing based on dynamic patient conditions, and ensuring safe, effective pharmacologic care. His clinical interests include neurocritical care, emergency medicine, epilepsy, and HIV/AIDS, with a strong commitment to advancing his expertise through additional certifications in critical care and HIV pharmacy.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I really enjoy the critical thinking aspect of working in the intensive care unit and emergency room. It's exciting and definitely keeps me very busy, especially in critical care settings. I love being able to assess patients every day and make independent decisions about medication adjustments, particularly for things like antibiotic optimization and patients with changing kidney function. Going on medical rounds with physicians, interacting directly with nurses and patients, and providing recommendations on which antibiotics might be best for specific infections - all of that critical thinking and direct patient care is what I find most rewarding. I've also made it a personal goal to specialize in HIV care because, as a gay man living in Broward County where HIV is very common, I've seen there's a real shortage of providers comfortable with advanced medication regimens for patients who have been in treatment for a long time. Being able to fill that gap and become an expert in caring for HIV patients is something I'm passionate about.
