Kristina Kenger, RN, CCM
Kristina Kenger, RN, CCM, is a Nurse Consultant and Case Management leader based in the Detroit Metropolitan Area, specializing in complex care coordination, rehabilitation, and catastrophic injury management. With over 12 years of nursing experience, she has dedicated her career to working with patients experiencing traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and other catastrophic conditions. She began her nursing journey in a short-term rehabilitation facility, where she developed a strong clinical foundation and advanced into the role of Director of Nursing. Her early experiences shaped her commitment to patient advocacy and high-quality, coordinated care across the continuum.
After relocating to Michigan, Kristina transitioned into case management, a move she often describes as putting her “on a kind of crazy path,” as it opened new opportunities in clinical leadership and business development. She went on to serve as Chief Executive Officer of a case management company for a year and a half, further expanding her expertise in operational leadership and nurse-led organizational development. In September, she transitioned into her current role as a Nurse Consultant and Clinical Liaison, where she supports Special Tree, a neurorehabilitation organization. In this capacity, she conducts hospital evaluations at facilities such as the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, assesses patient appropriateness for specialized TBI and spinal cord programs, and helps coordinate care pathways that maximize recovery and support safe discharge home. She also consults with Restorative Physical Medicine (RPM), supporting a multidisciplinary team of providers in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
Kristina is actively engaged in advancing the field of case management through her involvement with the Case Management Society of America (CMSA), both at the Detroit chapter and national level. She will be presenting at the CMSA national conference in June on non-medical influencers of health, including housing, food insecurity, poverty, and transportation, highlighting the critical role these factors play in patient outcomes. Her passion for nursing is deeply personal, inspired by her grandfather’s experience with brain cancer following a car accident, which revealed to her the importance of compassionate care coordination and advocacy for patients and families without adequate support systems.
