Krista Capobianco, LCSW
Krista Capobianco, LCSW, is a dedicated licensed clinical social worker with extensive experience supporting adolescents, parents, and women navigating life’s challenges. Since beginning her professional journey in 2019, Krista has worked across multiple clinical settings, including hospital-based programs, outpatient therapy, employee assistance programs, and community mental health. She has a strong focus on trauma-informed care and has helped clients ranging from teenagers experiencing severe poverty to parents seeking practical coping strategies. Her approach combines evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS), with a genuine, relatable style that resonates with her clients.
In addition to her clinical roles, Krista has cultivated a unique, client-centered practice philosophy that emphasizes authenticity and comfort. In November 2023, she founded Calm-ish Counseling, a woman-owned private practice in a historic Monroe, North Carolina home. The practice reflects her commitment to creating an inviting and non-traditional therapeutic environment, complete with cozy furnishings, therapy snacks, and her therapy dog, fostering a space where clients feel truly seen and heard. Krista’s laid-back, supportive approach allows clients to engage in meaningful therapy while feeling at ease, often blending practical life skills with personal insight and lived experience.
Krista is also highly credentialed and continually expanding her expertise. She holds a Master of Social Work from Winthrop University and an MBA from Wingate University, and she is licensed in multiple states including North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Rhode Island, and Louisiana. Her professional interests span trauma, adolescent mental health, parental support, substance abuse, and community mental health. Through her work, Krista emphasizes empathy, authenticity, and empowerment, guiding clients to build confidence, resilience, and a sense of well-being in their daily lives.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I really love what I do. What makes my heart happy is when people feel so comfortable in my office that they come in, take their shoes off, put a blanket on, and help themselves to a Coke in the back. People will bring their kids, and they'll start playing with my kids in the back while I see the mom. I always say if you have no childcare, bring your kids - they can run amok, there's nothing they're gonna break here, we got food, we got Wi-Fi. I like that people feel comfortable enough to do that, and we know all their family members. I have a patient that drives an hour and 20 minutes with her husband to come see me, and that's the highest honor of my life. It's such a beautiful thing, and I'm very, very lucky. I have really awesome people.
