Dr. Kory Lavine, MD, PhD is a physician-scientist and the Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Research at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He also serves as the Alan and Edith Wolff Professor of Cardiology, focusing on heart failure and transplant cardiology. His clinical and investigative expertise spans advanced heart failure, myocarditis, and cardiac transplantation, with work ranging from basic and translational research to therapeutic development and early-phase clinical studies.

Dr. Lavine earned both his MD and PhD in Developmental Biology from Washington University in St. Louis in 2008. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology. Throughout his career, he has combined patient care, research, and teaching, mentoring the next generation of physicians and scientists at Washington University. His clinical practice is affiliated with Barnes Jewish Hospital and Barnes Jewish West County Hospital, where he provides advanced care for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions.

Recognized for his contributions to cardiovascular research, Dr. Lavine received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2019. He is an active member of several professional societies, including the American Heart Association (AHA), American College of Cardiology (ACC), International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT), and American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI). He attributes his success to the guidance of his mentors, the collaboration of his colleagues, and his passion for teaching.

Outside of work, Dr. Lavine enjoys playing soccer and spending quality time with his family. What he values most about practicing medicine is the ability to give patients their lives back and provide care at the highest level of acuity. Through his combined roles as a clinician, researcher, and educator, he continues to advance the field of cardiovascular medicine while positively impacting the lives of his patients and students.
