Korine Tatroe, R. EEG T., CNIM, plays a critical role in the high-stakes world of neurosurgery, where every millimeter can mean the difference between success and lasting neurological impact. As a Surgical Neurophysiologist IV and Electroneurodiagnostic Technologist at SpecialtyCare, she serves as The Silent Guardian of the Operating Room, monitoring the electrical signals of the nervous system to ensure safe and successful outcomes during complex brain, spine, and vascular surgeries. From the first incision to the final suture, Korine interprets real-time neurophysiological data—guiding surgeons in critical moments to help prevent neurological complications and safeguard patient well-being.

Korine’s expertise in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) is grounded in more than a decade of experience and technical mastery. She has honed her skills through roles at Carle Health, Definitive Neurodiagnostics, and Northwestern Medicine, earning certification from ABRET as both a Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) and a Certified Neurophysiologic Intraoperative Monitoring Technologist (CNIM). Her approach combines clinical precision, evidence-based practice, and an unwavering commitment to excellence in every surgical case and educational setting she supports.

What sets Korine apart is not only her technical expertise, but also her dedication to advocacy, mentorship, and education. Recognizing that neurodiagnostics remains unfamiliar to many outside the operating room, she actively engages with the community through job fairs, outreach, and mentoring future technologists. As a passionate neuro-ambassador, Korine works to demystify her field and inspire the next generation of healthcare specialists—embodying the principles of precision, compassion, and lifelong learning that define her remarkable career.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is the opportunity to make a direct and meaningful impact on patient outcomes in real time. My journey to neurophysiology began in veterinary technology, where I developed a foundation in patient care and compassion that naturally transitioned into human medicine. This path led me to discover my calling in surgical neurology, a field that perfectly unites my technical precision with my empathy for others. After earning my EEG certification from the Institute of Health Science and completing rigorous board exams and clinical training, I achieved credentials in both EEG (R. EEG T.) and intraoperative neuromonitoring (CNIM). Today, as a member of ASET and ABRET, I travel across multiple hospitals in central Illinois, supporting surgeons through complex procedures and helping safeguard patients’ neurological function. Each day brings new challenges, but also the profound reward of knowing that my work helps preserve what makes us who we are, the ability to think, move, and live fully.
