Kathryn Jenzer, RN, BSN, CCRN, BA, is an experienced registered nurse and healthcare leader specializing in critical care and perioperative medicine. With more than 20 years of experience in healthcare, she has built a distinguished career focused on patient advocacy, clinical excellence, and quality improvement. She currently serves as an ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) Coordinator at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where she works within the Department of Surgery to advance evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes and enhance recovery following surgical procedures.

Throughout her career, Kathryn has developed extensive expertise in critical care nursing, including 14 years working in intensive care environments and additional experience in perioperative medicine. She has served in cardiovascular intensive care units, surgical nursing roles, and as a travel intensive care nurse, gaining diverse clinical experience across multiple healthcare systems. Her background includes direct patient care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and healthcare administration, allowing her to contribute meaningfully to both bedside care and system-level quality initiatives.

Kathryn earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Roberts Wesleyan University and holds the Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification, reflecting her advanced knowledge and commitment to excellence in critical care practice. In her current role as ERAS Coordinator, she supports quality assurance initiatives by implementing data-driven clinical pathways designed to reduce complications, improve recovery times, and enhance the overall perioperative patient experience.

Beyond her clinical responsibilities, Kathryn is actively engaged in professional and community service. She serves on the Board of Directors for the American Society of Enhanced Recovery–Perioperative Medicine (ASER-PM), contributing to multidisciplinary efforts that promote personalized, value-based perioperative care. She is also a board member of The Potter’s Hands Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of sexual exploitation and trafficking. Her career reflects a deep commitment to compassionate care, professional leadership, and improving healthcare outcomes for patients and communities alike.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is the opportunity to care for and support patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Being a nurse allows me to combine clinical knowledge with compassion, helping patients feel safe, heard, and supported throughout their healthcare journey. I value being part of a collaborative healthcare team working toward improving patient outcomes and recovery.
