Kathleen Vieyra, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC

Kathleen Vieyra, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and founder of Empowered Health & Healing Functional Medicine, a virtual functional medicine practice serving patients in Florida. With more than 20 years of experience in nursing and advanced practice, Katie combines her clinical expertise with a deep passion for helping patients uncover the root causes of chronic health conditions rather than simply managing symptoms.

Katie’s approach to healthcare emphasizes a holistic, systems-based perspective. She works closely with patients to assess diet, sleep, movement, stress, and lifestyle factors, recognizing that these elements are interconnected and play a critical role in overall health. Her goal is to empower patients to take ownership of their health through personalized, evidence-based plans that address the underlying causes of illness.

Her career in nursing began as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and progressed to Registered Nurse (RN) before she became a Nurse Practitioner. Over the years, Katie has gained extensive experience caring for patients in diverse settings, including home-based care, preventive and wellness visits, wound care, and complex chronic disease management. She has worked with elderly, chronically ill, and underserved populations, providing compassionate, patient-centered care at every stage of her career.

Katie transitioned into functional medicine after witnessing firsthand how conventional medicine often focuses on symptom management rather than long-term healing. Inspired by positive outcomes in both family members and patients, she pursued advanced training through the School of Applied Functional Medicine, integrating functional medicine principles into her clinical practice to help patients restore balance, vitality, and overall well-being.

Katie’s education and professional training have been extensive and multidisciplinary. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish from Agnes Scott College, completed an LPN diploma at Gwinnett Technical College, an accelerated RN program at Georgia State University, and a Master’s in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner from Florida International University. She is also board-certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (FNP-BC) and licensed in Florida as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner.

Outside of her professional practice, Katie is passionate about patient education, mentoring healthcare professionals, and supporting individuals in their long-term health journeys. She is fluent in Spanish, which allows her to communicate effectively with a diverse patient population. Through her virtual practice, she continues to bring accessible, compassionate, and holistic care to patients seeking a more personalized approach to their health and wellness.
