Karoline Mion, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC
Karoline Mion, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, is a dual-certified Family and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Founder & CEO of Brain Health Psychiatry. She has been practicing as a nurse since 2008, beginning her career in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she spent approximately seven years caring for newborns and supporting families during critical moments. While she valued her work in neonatology, she ultimately chose to expand her scope into family practice in 2013, driven by a desire for broader clinical impact and long-term career growth.
As a Nurse Practitioner, Karoline has developed a diverse clinical background spanning nephrology, women’s health, addiction medicine, and rehabilitation care. She has worked extensively in substance use treatment settings, providing detox support and medical management, and also practiced telemedicine during the COVID-19 pandemic, assisting patients and travelers unable to return to their countries of origin. Early in her NP career, she recognized the strong connection between physical health and mental health, which solidified her long-term commitment to psychiatric care. She completed her psychiatric mental health certification in 2021, formally aligning her practice with her passion for behavioral health.
In 2023, Karoline founded Brain Health Psychiatry, where she currently leads a growing team that includes additional psychiatric nurse practitioners. Her practice focuses on delivering high-quality, culturally responsive mental health care, particularly within the Brazilian community, reflecting her own heritage and 30 years of experience living in the United States. Fluent in Portuguese and Spanish, she is known for her ability to connect with patients through language and cultural understanding. She is also trained in accelerated resolution therapy and other therapeutic modalities, and is actively expanding her practice with additional locations, including monthly in-person services in Orlando and plans for multi-site growth over the next five years.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I love what I do and I've been able to feel fulfilled in the same way as I think I would have being a physician. What's so rewarding is being an extension to the physicians and being able to reach more people. The healthcare field is so saturated that without nurse practitioners, people would be waiting forever to see someone, and it already is bad but it would be even worse. So to be that extension to the physicians and to be able to reach more people is just so rewarding. We're working towards the same goals, and it's a field where we have a board, we have rules, we have autonomy in some of those specialties, so it's really great. It's just evolving all the time.
