Kari Stewart, LVN
Kari Stewart, LVN is a highly experienced pediatric nurse with over 12 years of dedicated service in clinic-based care. She currently serves as a charge nurse at Baylor Scott & White in Brenham, Texas, overseeing a large team of pediatric nurses and working closely with providers to ensure high-quality, coordinated care for her patients. Her role involves both direct patient care and operational leadership, ensuring the smooth functioning of her department in a busy clinical environment.
Kari plays a vital leadership role within her organization, serving as the primary coordinator for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) program and as the Immtrac coordinator for the Brenham region. In these roles, she manages compliance and tracking across multiple departments, ensuring that patients receive timely vaccinations and that reporting standards are consistently met. Additionally, she leads the Reach Out and Read program, promoting early literacy and developmental readiness for young patients and their families.
Beyond her clinical and operational responsibilities, Kari is deeply committed to education, mentorship, and team development. She regularly conducts Lunch and Learn sessions to support pediatric training within her organization and fosters a collaborative, respectful workplace culture. Her leadership has contributed to strong team engagement, reflected in high employee satisfaction scores within her department.
Kari is PALS certified and has been recognized for her excellence in nursing, receiving the Top 100 Nurses award from her organization in 2026 and the LVN of the Year Award from Victoria College’s nursing program in 2014. Her accomplishments reflect both her clinical expertise and her dedication to advancing pediatric care through professional development and advocacy.
Kari’s passion for pediatric nursing is deeply personal. Diagnosed with PKU at birth, she spent much of her childhood in medical settings, witnessing firsthand the impact of compassionate, patient-centered care. These experiences inspired her lifelong commitment to advocating for children, particularly those who may not always have a voice. Guided by empathy, resilience, and purpose, Kari continues to build long-term relationships with her patients, caring for children from infancy through adolescence, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of the families and communities she serves.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most is working with my patients and watching them grow. It’s incredibly rewarding to care for children from infancy through adolescence and see their successes over the years. I also truly value the team I work with every day. While I may serve as their leader, I always emphasize that we are equal — LVNs, CMAs, and providers all share the same purpose and goals. Having a supportive, collaborative team makes my day-to-day work much more effective and enjoyable.
I also enjoy being part of the leadership team, helping advance and strengthen our region and organization. The lead pediatric provider and I work closely together, which allows us to align our efforts and help the department flourish. Our team’s dedication is reflected in employee satisfaction surveys, where we rank among the highest departments, and I believe that speaks volumes about our leadership and the culture we’ve built.
