Karen Vega, MD

Dr. Karen Vega is a licensed acupuncturist and integrative medicine practitioner, as well as the owner of KV Acupuncture, with locations in Atlanta (Buckhead) and Buford, Georgia. Originally from Colombia, she began her medical career as a family medicine physician before transitioning into holistic care. Her path into acupuncture was deeply personal—after suffering from debilitating migraines that interfered with her ability to work in the operating room and manage demanding shifts, she found complete relief through acupuncture within just one month. This transformative experience inspired her to pursue a more natural, patient-centered approach to healing, one that minimizes reliance on medications and their side effects.

After relocating to Pennsylvania with her husband, a colorectal surgeon, Dr. Vega formally trained in acupuncture at the WON Institute of Graduate Studies, earning her degree in 2017. She further advanced her expertise by obtaining her Diplomate in Chinese Herbology from the Maryland University of Integrative Health in 2021. Since then, she has built a thriving practice, relocating to Georgia and establishing KV Acupuncture, where she specializes in pelvic floor acupuncture, orthopedic conditions, and musculoskeletal injuries. She is also certified in facial rejuvenation and massage acupuncture, offering a wide range of services tailored to both therapeutic and wellness-focused care.

Dr. Vega is known for her deeply personalized and holistic philosophy, which she describes as “luxury acupuncture.” Her extended one-on-one sessions—often lasting 90 minutes to two hours—allow her to thoroughly explore each patient’s medical history, emotional health, and lifestyle factors. She believes that many physical conditions, such as chronic pain, may be rooted in emotional or internal imbalances, and that lasting healing requires addressing the whole person rather than isolated symptoms. Driven by a passion for continuous learning and growth, Dr. Vega remains committed to expanding her practice and helping patients find hope, balance, and long-term wellness.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I love most about what I do is to really help people and give people hope that everything can be better. You just have to try. I truly believe that what makes me kind of unique is the time that I spend with the clients. I really listen to them, so my appointments are one-to-one. I call that, like, a luxury acupuncture. Each initial treatment can be 1 hour and 30 minutes, or even 2 hours. I go through the whole story, even if you just come from whatever. I go through all the medical history, emotions, feelings, as much as I like to know my patients. It's not that I'm looking for things to treat, but I really need to treat everything to be able to be a success. Not just in the lower back pain, but maybe that lower back pain is related to an emotional trauma that you have not resolved, or you just ignored that you have, or a gastrointestinal issue that you may have, but if I don't dig on your history, I won't get there, so I will have just a temporary relief. And that's not what I'm looking for.
