Karen Mayo, LCSW
Karen Mayo, LCSW, is a clinical social worker at CT Kids Matter, where she provides compassionate, trauma-informed care to children, adolescents, and families. With over six years of clinical experience, Karen treats a wide range of psychiatric and emotional disorders using a brain-based, attachment-focused approach. She is deeply committed to helping clients build resilience, strengthen relationships, and heal from trauma within a safe, supportive therapeutic environment.
Karen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Southern Connecticut State University, where she also minored in psychology, and completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work at Fordham University. Her clinical practice emphasizes the importance of attachment across the lifespan, and she actively educates families on how early relationships shape emotional and relational health. Karen prefers a multi-modal therapeutic approach, drawing from humanistic theory, attachment theory, neo-Freudian psychodynamic theory, and solution-focused therapy. She also incorporates select interventions from internal family systems and dialectical behavioral therapy to meet each client’s unique needs.
Committed to continued professional growth, Karen recently earned her certification in Integrative Medicine through Evergreen Certifications and is currently pursuing her Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP-II) credential. She also explores the benefits of neuro-feedback with clients who are interested in addressing the neurological impacts of trauma. Known for her empathy, clinical insight, and collaborative style, Karen empowers children and families to develop lasting skills for emotional regulation, connection, and long-term wellbeing.
