Kaley Brown, BSN, RN, CPHN
Kaley Brown, BSN, RN, CPHN, is a compassionate and dedicated registered nurse serving the students and families of Guilford County Schools, North Carolina’s third-largest school district. She began her nursing career in 2016 as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the U.S. Army, where she gained valuable experience in intensive care settings. Her early military service instilled a strong foundation in clinical skills, discipline, and patient-centered care, shaping her approach to nursing throughout her career.
Driven by a commitment to lifelong learning, Kaley earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Elon University in 2020, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northeastern University in 2024. After completing her BSN, she worked in critical care before transitioning to public health nursing. In her current role as a school nurse, she oversees the health and wellness of approximately 900 students across two elementary schools, connecting families with essential services through the county health department and supporting both children and their families in meaningful ways.
Kaley is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Nursing at Maryville University, with plans to become a family nurse practitioner by August 2027. Beyond her clinical work, she is passionate about equine-assisted therapy and is in the process of building a horse farm where she will provide therapeutic experiences for inner-city youth through her non-profit initiative, Horses of Human Healing. Her work reflects a commitment to holistic care, blending medical expertise with emotional and community support.
Recognized for her dedication and impact, Kaley is a DAISY Award nominee and an active member of the American Nurses Association and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I find my work as a school nurse very rewarding. What I really enjoy is being able to help not just the kids, but their families too. The way my position is set up, I'm staffed through the county, so I have access to a lot more tools like DHHS and all the resources that families need but don't realize they actually have access to. Being able to connect them with those services and support both the children and their families is what makes this work so meaningful to me.
