Joy A. Gottshall
Joy Gottshall is a highly experienced school psychologist with over 45 years of dedicated service in North Carolina’s public school system. She currently serves at Guilford County Schools, where she has been a trusted professional since 1983. Her expertise spans psycho-educational assessments, consultation, and program development, supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. Joy is recognized for her thoughtful, student-centered approach and her ability to collaborate effectively with educators, families, and administrators.
Prior to her tenure at Guilford County Schools, Joy served as the sole school psychologist for Person County Schools, where she conducted comprehensive exceptional children (EC) assessments and supported the Academically Gifted program across 11 schools. She began her career in a regional school psychologist position serving both Caswell and Person counties, demonstrating early in her career her commitment to addressing diverse student needs and navigating complex educational systems. Throughout her career, Joy has consistently contributed to creating and refining procedures and assessment tools that enhance educational outcomes.
Joy earned her Master’s degree in Psychology with a focus in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has been honored with multiple awards, including recognition as a Top School Psychologist in Guilford County and the Marquis Who’s Who Award. Passionate about children’s development and education, Joy continues to make a meaningful impact on her community through her thoughtful guidance, expertise, and unwavering dedication to student success.

What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is the opportunity to work with the unique and diverse children I serve. Each child brings their own personality, challenges, and strengths, and being able to support their growth and well-being is both rewarding and inspiring.
