What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
I love being a bedside nurse and working directly with patients. When I was in the Emergency Department for 15 years, I absolutely loved it. Now in PACU, I feel like a flight attendant providing the sweetest care, making sure patients are comfortable, stable, and ready to go home. I give them coffee, tea, manage their pain and nausea, and really get them stable enough after anesthesia. What I enjoy most is treating everyone with the utmost respect and giving stellar care no matter who they are. Every patient is a VIP to me. I once had the CEO of Vitamin Water as my patient in the ER, and I didn't even know who he was, but he noticed how I treated everybody the same. That's what matters to me. I also love teaching and mentoring new nurses. I've had two student nurses who became nurse practitioners, and one of them even took care of me in the emergency room once. Knowing that I trained somebody to be the best they could be, that to me was everything.
