What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most is being at the forefront of helping patients receive life-extending treatments. When I first started in oncology, patients with lung cancer often survived only three to six months. Today, thanks to advances in medications and technology, many patients with metastatic cancer can live much longer, often managing their disease like a chronic condition. For instance, patients with certain lung cancer mutations who have access to new targeted therapies can now live two to three years or more. Being part of this process—helping patients witness milestones like their children or grandchildren graduating—is incredibly rewarding. Seeing patients survive and thrive beyond expectations is one of the most meaningful accomplishments in my career.
