Dr. Jonathan Stofer, MD, MPH is a physician and researcher with expertise in cellular biology, infectious disease, and public health. His work spans molecular mechanisms of bone health to the epidemiology of parasitic infections, emphasizing translational research with potential clinical applications.

In his publication “Reveromycin A-Induced Apoptosis in Osteoclasts is Not Accompanied by Necrosis” (Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 2015), Dr. Stofer investigated the effects of Reveromycin A (RM-A), a natural compound derived from Streptomyces bacteria, on osteoclast apoptosis. The study demonstrated that RM-A selectively induces apoptosis in osteoclasts without triggering necrosis, indicating a targeted effect that could minimize impact on surrounding bone cells. Using differentiated RAW264.7 murine macrophages, the research highlighted key intracellular mechanisms, including activation of caspase 9 and stable NFκB levels, offering promising insights for potential clinical use of RM-A as a bone antiresorptive therapy.

Dr. Stofer has also contributed to public health research, including the study “Adverse Health Effects of Intestinal Parasitic Infections in Rural Peruvian Clinic Patients” (Wright State University CORE Scholar, 2014). This work analyzed the prevalence, treatment, and socioeconomic factors influencing intestinal parasitic infections in remote communities of the Peruvian Amazon. Findings revealed high infection rates linked to water, food, sanitation practices, and education levels, underscoring the need for targeted public health interventions in hyperendemic regions.
