Alquerque, NM 87106

Jocelyn Delgado is an experienced physical therapist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with more than 31 years in the field. She currently serves with UNMH Home Healthcare, where she has worked since 2017 and functions as a wound care consultant for nursing and therapy staff—a role she has held for nine years. Her practice is rooted in home healthcare, focusing on functional mobility and patient safety across a wide range of ages and diagnoses. As part of the state’s only Level 1 trauma center, University of New Mexico Hospital, she is exposed to diverse and complex cases, continually researching evidence-based interventions to provide the highest standard of care.

Jocelyn specializes in wound care and vestibular therapy. In wound management, she enhances her colleagues’ clinical skills by recommending appropriate dressings, performing selective sharp debridement, and introducing innovative interventions—particularly for venous stasis ulcers. She is deeply fascinated by the body’s innate ability to heal when provided with the proper environment. In vestibular therapy, she treats patients experiencing vertigo, dizziness, balance deficits, and persistent dizziness of unknown origin, helping them regain stability and confidence in their daily lives.

Her professional journey includes nine years with Gentiva Health Services, as well as roles at Lovelace Outpatient Rehab. Jocelyn earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from The University of New Mexico and completed earlier studies in Psychology and Pre-Physical Therapy at Western New Mexico University. Describing herself as an “old-school” therapist, she is committed to helping patients reach their maximal rehabilitation potential while empowering them with self-confidence and safety strategies. She is equally passionate about mentoring younger therapists, sharing her expertise, and instilling a patient-centered approach that prioritizes compassion and quality care over simply treating diagnoses.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

It's just a desire to help people. I always wanted to make a difference in people's lives. It's a very rewarding job, though also very emotionally taxing. I consider myself an old-school therapist, and in my schooling and teaching, it was always to provide care to allow our patients to reach maximal rehab potential. I've been able to empower my patients by giving them a sense of safety and self-trust, self-confidence to be able to do what they need to do on a day-to-day basis. It's such a collaborative profession, and I always put the patient first. I always tell people that when I lose patients, it hurts a little bit. It always hurts, and the day that it doesn't hurt is the day that I need to retire. In home care, I'm able to address different deficits - if someone comes in with hip pain but they're suffering from dizziness, I can address both, as opposed to an outpatient setting where it's diagnosis only. I focus on what they need, and I teach them as much as I can, looking for evidence-based interventions for diagnoses I'm not familiar with.
