Janina M. Springer, RN, MSN
Janina M. Springer, RN, MSN, is a registered nurse based in Kaneohe, Hawaii, with nearly a decade of nursing experience in both direct care and telehealth triage. She currently serves at Hawaii Pacific Health (Straub Benioff Medical), where she works in nurse triage supporting approximately 100 providers across Oʻahu and neighboring islands. In this role, she assesses patient needs over the phone, coordinates appointments, directs patients to urgent care when appropriate, and escalates emergent cases to emergency services when necessary, ensuring patients receive timely and appropriate levels of care.
Her nursing career is rooted in a strong foundation of clinical and community experience. Before transitioning into nursing, Janina worked for over 30 years as a massage therapist, where she developed a deep understanding of patient care and chronic pain management. She later pursued nursing, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Chaminade University of Honolulu in 2016 and her Master of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University in 2020. She has also held roles in med-surg, telemetry, triage nursing, care coordination, and program leadership, including serving as a team lead at Waimānalo Health Center and working with RCM Technologies.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Janina has contributed to quality improvement initiatives focused on diabetes care, particularly addressing the high prevalence of diabetes in Hawaii’s Indigenous populations. She has participated in leadership programs aimed at improving patient outcomes through better screening, education, and coordinated care for conditions such as diabetes-related eye, foot, and wound complications. She is committed to empathetic, patient-centered care and values teamwork, education, and ensuring patients are guided to the right care setting at the right time.

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is helping patients feel heard, valued, and genuinely cared for. I take pride in ensuring they are guided to the right level of care at the right time, so they never feel neglected or unsure of where to turn. Many patients are surprised to learn that these services are available to them, and their gratitude reinforces the importance of what we do. I strive to treat every patient as I would my own family, making sure they feel supported even when care is not delivered face-to-face. Ultimately, my focus is on improving access, trust, and overall well-being within the community.
