Heather Peterson is a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and home health aide with over 20 years of experience in the healthcare field. She has built a career centered on compassionate, individualized care, with a strong focus on supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and dementia. Her early work began with an autistic child and at a day treatment center for adults with developmental disabilities, where she facilitated structured activities such as community outings and creative arts programs that promoted engagement and quality of life.

Throughout her professional journey, Heather expanded her expertise across a variety of care settings, including assisted living facilities, nursing homes, schools, and in-home care environments. She has worked with organizations such as InnovAge, Senior Hub, Visiting Angels, and Health at Home, gaining extensive experience in both institutional and home-based caregiving. From 2018 to March 2026, she provided long-term, dedicated care in Indiana for a young girl with developmental disabilities, working closely with the family as part of a coordinated care team. Her work also included caring for veterans and supporting dementia patients in adult day care settings.

Heather is certified as a CNA, home health aide, and is trained in CPR and first aid. She is a member of the SEIU union and is currently transferring her CNA license back to Colorado as she continues her caregiving work in Castle Rock. She is deeply committed to a holistic approach to care, emphasizing the importance of addressing physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Looking ahead, she is considering further education to become a physical therapy assistant (PTA) or occupational therapy assistant (OTA), continuing her lifelong dedication to improving the lives of those she serves.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I enjoy seeing the personalities of my patients come out and watching them experience moments of happiness and growth. I once cared for a little girl who could not talk or walk, and I loved seeing her smile and watching her slowly blossom. Being able to bring comfort, joy, and dignity to someone’s daily life is what I find most meaningful. I also value helping with personal care, such as bathing, because I believe it helps people feel better, more comfortable, and more human.

I strongly believe in advocating for my patients and working closely with their families as part of a team. I especially appreciated collaborating with the parents of a child I cared for who had seizures, making sure she was safe, supported, and able to enjoy activities like swimming and gentle exercise. I also value companionship—whether it’s sitting outside with someone, going for a walk, or simply having a meaningful conversation. For me, it is important that patients feel fulfilled, that their needs are met, and that their families have peace of mind knowing their loved one is well cared for.
