Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about nursing is the relationship aspect of patient care. Throughout the process of caring for patients who go through a lot physically and mentally, I feel like they deserve someone who sees them, and not just their condition or what they're going through. I try to stay grounded in making sure that I'm giving safe care and quality care. My mom fell sick with end-stage liver disease after I completed nursing school, and throughout that process, I saw a lot of things she went through physically and mentally. Just being there and having the compassion to provide care - I feel like sometimes the smallest thing, like listening and being patient and just showing up for the patient, makes a big difference in the experience that they go through. I have a deep compassion and deep care for dialysis nursing. Even though I've left dialysis before to try other areas like med-surg and ICU, I always find myself back to dialysis.
