Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about nursing is being a patient advocate and hearing people's stories. I'm a caregiver - always have been, still am. I feel like if anybody's sick, I've got to take care of them. The greatest joys of nursing for me is to hear people's stories. I love taking care of geriatrics and I loved hearing what they had to say. There was one lady in Montana that I took care of who was in her 90s and was born on a wagon train moving to Montana during an Indian race. I'd always go to her room and she'd say 'Miss Sips, that's you?' and then she'd tell me about starting the first woman's basketball team in Montana. All people have got stories to tell, and so many people forget to listen to the stories they got to tell. If you listen, you can hear so much. I just love the elderly. The day I quit crying is the day I'm done, because if I don't have those feelings, I don't need to be a nurse.
