Dominique Castro
Dominique Castro represents a new generation of mental health professionals who combine clinical expertise with personal insight. Currently practicing virtually with a private group practice in Staten Island, New York, she works with clients across a broad range of ages and backgrounds. With nearly a year of hands-on experience, she specializes in supporting individuals navigating depression, anxiety, PTSD, and related challenges, always tailoring her approach to meet each client’s unique needs.
Castro’s primary clinical framework is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), chosen for its structure and evidence-based effectiveness. She remains flexible in her methods, integrating additional therapeutic modalities when appropriate to ensure treatment is responsive rather than prescriptive. This adaptability allows her to connect meaningfully with a diverse client population while delivering empathetic, results-driven care.
Her career path reflects a deep commitment to education and advocacy. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science with a minor in legal studies from the College of Staten Island, followed by a master’s degree in school counseling from St. John’s University. Currently, she is advancing her clinical credentials through a dual certification toward a master’s in clinical mental health at Brooklyn College. She is also an active member of the American School Counselor Association, staying engaged with national standards and professional development opportunities.
Castro’s interest in counseling stems from personal experiences with mental health challenges and early exposure to school counseling systems that prioritized academics over emotional wellbeing. These experiences motivated her to provide the kind of support she once found lacking. While her foundation in school counseling shaped her career, she recognized the importance of expanding her reach to individuals beyond the school system, addressing emotional and social needs across the broader community.
Looking ahead, Castro aspires to open a private practice that integrates emotional and social support. Through her work, she aims to demonstrate that mental health challenges are not barriers to success but experiences that can be understood, managed, and overcome with the right guidance. Her growing clinical expertise and dedication to meaningful change position her as a compassionate, forward-thinking professional in the mental health field.
