Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

I enjoy practicing medicine as counseling because it invites people into a deeper awareness of themselves—an awareness that sparks curiosity rather than judgment. My work isn’t centered on medication, even though pharmacology is an essential tool I rely on when a client’s body or brain needs support. What draws me in is the process of helping someone notice what their symptoms might be trying to communicate, and guiding them toward a more compassionate understanding of their own internal world. When clients begin to explore their experiences with curiosity—Why does my body respond this way? What is this feeling connected to? What is this moment asking of me?—the work becomes less about fixing a problem and more about discovering meaning. Counseling gives me the space to slow down, listen closely, and help people trace the threads between their physiology, their history, their relationships, and their hopes. My medical training helps me recognize the biological patterns at play, but it’s the counseling relationship that transforms those insights into something personal and empowering. Integrating both allows me to walk with individuals and families as they develop a more spacious, inquisitive relationship with themselves—one where symptoms become signals, emotions become information, and healing becomes a journey of awareness rather than a destination.
