Desiree Mitchell, RN, ND

Desiree Mitchell, RN, ND is a dedicated healthcare professional who blends holistic and conventional medicine to deliver integrative patient care. Beginning her career as a naturopathic doctor, she practiced for 15 years in Washington State and Oregon, developing expertise in natural therapies, nutrition, and patient-centered wellness. In 2016, Desiree expanded her clinical skills by earning her nursing degree from Pioneer Pacific College in Eugene, Oregon, joining the inaugural class despite not having a traditional nursing assistant background. Her journey through nursing was marked by perseverance, balancing full-time work, family responsibilities, and eventually closing her naturopathic practice due to her husband’s illness.

Following graduation, Desiree worked as a travel nurse for approximately five to six years, gaining diverse experience across healthcare settings. She now focuses on private duty nursing in Arizona, collaborating closely with hospice and home health agencies. Her practice incorporates infusion therapy, ostomy and wound care, and nutritional coaching, reflecting her commitment to comprehensive, patient-centered care. Desiree emphasizes listening deeply to patients and guiding them toward sustainable lifestyle changes, bridging the gap between holistic and allopathic approaches.

Beyond clinical practice, Desiree is passionate about creating collaborative care networks that integrate multiple healing modalities. Her long-term vision includes establishing a healing center where osteopathy, chiropractic care, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, and holistic therapies work together seamlessly to meet each patient’s unique needs. In addition to her professional pursuits, she volunteers in trafficking prevention and support, bringing her integrative mindset and compassionate approach to philanthropic initiatives as well.

Q

What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?

What I enjoy most about practicing nursing is being able to truly listen to my patients and spend quality time with them. So many people aren't used to being heard, and when you go in to see your doctor, you've got maybe 3 minutes with them, if that. So many people don't feel heard, so it's really nice to be able to be on the side where I can listen and take the time. I love being able to help people understand what they're not doing that isn't the best for them and integrate my holistic training with my nursing practice. People are pretty receptive to it, which is really nice. I actually got in trouble all the time in the hospital for spending way too much time with patients, but that's what matters to me - having someone that just takes time to listen and help them integrate more health into their already busy life.
