Cynthia Read is an accomplished Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) and Nurse Practitioner based in the Peoria/Eureka, Illinois area, bringing over 30 years of nursing experience. She combines a long-standing commitment to pediatric critical care with specialized expertise in hematology, focusing on bleeding and clotting disorders. Cynthia currently works full-time at the Bleeding and Clotting Disorders Institute, caring for patients with benign hematology conditions, while also maintaining a part-time role in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU), reflecting her enduring passion for critical pediatric care.

Her professional philosophy emphasizes balancing specialized hematology practice with hands-on pediatric care. Cynthia values the deep connections she has built with colleagues and patients over decades and strives to provide care that is compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered. She began her nursing career after earning her Bachelor’s degree from St. Francis Medical Center School of Nursing in Peoria in 1993 and further advanced her expertise with Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner studies at the University of Chicago and Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner studies at Rush University.

In addition to her clinical work, Cynthia contributes to the field through legal nurse consulting with Pediatric Medical Experts and is developing her own practice under Bellator Consulting, LLC. She has been recognized as a top advanced practice nurse by America’s Best in Medicine, highlighting her excellence and dedication in patient care. Outside of her professional work, Cynthia enjoys dance, hiking, reading, travel, and spending time with friends, while maintaining a healthy work-life balance and continuing to mentor and support colleagues and patients across her areas of specialty.
