He completed his pediatric residency at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His advanced training provided him with a strong academic and clinical foundation in complex pediatric digestive diseases.
Following his fellowship, Dr. Cox joined GI For Kids, where he served in leadership roles including Director of Pediatric Neurogastroenterology and Motility. During this time, he developed specialized expertise in complex motility disorders and advanced pediatric GI care. In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Cox serves as a 2025/2026 Doximity Digital Health Fellow and is actively involved in the NASPGHAN Clinical Practice Committee. His work in digital health focuses on improving physician efficiency, patient access, and the integration of technology into modern pediatric care. He is also affiliated with TriStar Centennial Children’s Hospital and remains engaged in advancing pediatric gastroenterology standards at both the local and national levels.
Dr. Cox is committed to delivering care in a more approachable and community-centered environment, aiming to bridge the gap between large academic institutions and families seeking specialized pediatric GI services. His private practice model emphasizes ease of access, personalized care, and strong physician-patient relationships. He continues to expand his practice with the goal of growing a multidisciplinary team that enhances subspecialty pediatric care across Middle Tennessee.
Looking ahead, Dr. Cox plans to expand Heritage Medical Associates Pediatric Gastroenterology by adding additional physicians and advanced practice providers to better serve the region. He is focused on strengthening outpatient pediatric GI services while continuing to contribute to research, clinical innovation, and digital health initiatives. What do you enjoy most about practicing medicine?
What I enjoy most about practicing medicine is caring for children in a community-based setting where accessibility is a central priority. I have intentionally built my practice to make specialized pediatric gastroenterology care easier for families to access outside of large academic medical centers. While those institutions play an important role, they can often feel less approachable for families, and I believe patients benefit greatly from care that is both specialized and easy to navigate. My focus is on providing high-quality pediatric care in an environment that is welcoming, responsive, and centered around the needs of the family.
